Divorces: More common in these 2 months

On Behalf of | Aug 25, 2016 | High Asset Divorce

Sometimes, it seems like everything is going wrong. If you’re going through a divorce, you might think you’re the only one struggling, but the truth is that many families go through what you are and come out of it with minimal damage. August is a busy time of year for divorces, so those who seek them need to have their information in order, so they can work with their attorneys on a swift resolution.

There are a few times of year more likely to result in divorces than any other. Although that might sound unusual, there are actually two months of the year when the most divorces take place. A 14-year study of divorces in Washington state showed that filings were most common in the months of August and March. Why, though, are those the times when people are more likely to divorce?

It’s thought that some people may hope to fix their relationships over the holidays, so that would be why March would be a popular time to file a divorce. The holidays are over, and they’re able to move forward.

August, on the other hand, is before all major winter holidays, preventing awkward family moments. It is also possible that people who suffered from failed family vacations will want to get a divorce before the school year starts to prevent unnecessary hassles.

Another possibility is that although people might decide to get a divorce during the holidays, they may need more time to get their finances together. After the holidays, money can be tight, but by March, many people have received income tax returns to pay for a divorce. What’s most interesting is that although the study was completed in Washington state, it applies throughout the United States.
